FUTURE STOP

All aboard!

On the way to a “Zero Carbon Region”, we embarked on the Sustainable Urban Mobility project in the Algarve to think and plan how we are going to move in the future and how we can do it in a more efficient, inclusive and environmentally friendly way.

The municipalities and multiple public and private organizations that transport the Algarve inhabitants and visitors on a daily basis follow this trip.

About Vamus

Sustainable Urban Mobility Project of the Algarve

What is it?

It is a process of planning actions on private and collective transport so that, in the medium and long term, travel within or between Algarve cities is more efficient, more inclusive and more environmentally friendly.

Who promotes it?

The Intermunicipal Community of Algarve – AMAL, entity that aggregates, represents and promotes the concertation of the 16 municipalities of the region. Due to the collective nature of mobility, the project also drew a large number of partners with responsibilities for generating or attracting travel in the region who subscribed to the “Commitment Letter for Sustainable Mobility in the Algarve”.

How is it done?

Three teams were set up to elaborate the diagnosis and action plans of the windward side (Vila do Bispo, Aljezur, Lagos, Monchique, Portimão, Lagoa and Silves) areas, Central (Albufeira, Loulé, Faro, São Brás de Alportel, Olhão and Tavira) and leeward side (Alcoutim, Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim). In this work, several public and private partners cooperate, and all the Algarve’s and visitors from the region are also invited to participate

What is the result?

The plans will incorporate the measures to be taken by each of the mobility actors, listing potential sources of funding within the different Community incentive packages. They will also advance new approaches to the development and implementation of the Intermunicipal Mobility and Transport Plan (PMTI).

Who is it for?

In the first instance, municipalities and other bodies with local or regional planning responsibilities, but also all those who generate or operate trips. And, as mobility is a necessity for all of us, whether we are Algarve or visitors, individuals or public or private organizations, it is up to each of us to make the right choices so that we can do it in a sustainable way.

VAMUS was a mobile application designed by the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve (AMAL), within the scope of the homonymous sustainable urban mobility project – Projeto Vamus.

VAMUS allowed access to:
» to travel history;
» maps of public transport networks, bicycle use support and electric vehicle charging stations;
» information from transport operators in the Algarve;
» to the complaints platform for collective public transport services in the Algarve. VAMUS also made it possible to share information about your location, which allowed AMAL and the municipalities to understand the mobility needs of the Algarve and offer an adequate and environmentally friendly transport network.
